I was looking at our calendar today for the twelfth time, and suddenly it dawned on me; something was different. For starters, I had to actually scroll down to see the bottom of it. But more importantly I did some quick calculus on it and was shocked to discover that our future gigs actually outnumbered the old, outdated gigs by a 5-3 margin! When was the last time you could say THAT? Our calendar has long been an historical testimonial to past gigs and faded glory. Want to know what Soup was doing 6 months ago? Go check the calendar. But it's all changed now. Suddenly our calendar reads like a 'Let's Go! New England' guide book! And we owe most of this activity increase to one person: Lynne, our new promoter extraordinaire. She has overhauled our entire marketing strategy and brought a fresh, new approach to life here at Soup, Inc. For example, she has implemented an entirely new bookings procedure whereby she identifies places that book bands, contacts those places, and then inquires as to the possibility of us playing there! It is brilliant! Our method of sitting around and bitching about how we don't get any gigs was just not working out to our satisfaction. So we are all deeply indebted to Lynne and since we can't exactly pay her (right now), we figured we'd try lavishing praise and affection and public ego stroking on her (hey - it's worth a shot). Everyone sing! "For she's a jolly good fellow..."
