On Selling Out….

There are a lot of changes going on here at Soup, Inc. You’ve probably noticed a new CD, some new shows, a new look to the web page, and a new online merchandise kiosk. Many of our long time fans (or ‘retail marketing units’ if you will), have expressed some concern that these changes mark the end of Beat Soup as they’ve come to know us. This couldn’t be further from the truth. I am here to assure you that Beat Soup is more committed than ever to our charter mission: to tell the truth, to step on toes whenever necessary, to fight oppression, and most of all, to make great music (and related music products) at affordable prices!

“How can they do that”, you ask? We can do it because we are completely comfortable with who and what we are, and when I say ‘comfortable’, I’m talking 100% cotton comfortable. You know what else is comfortable? How about an official Beat Soup sweatshirt? For the low price of $21.99, you can experience the warmth and comfort of  this fine, 100% cotton shirt (estimated cotton content – actual content may vary up to 50%).

But I digress. As I stated, our charter mission remains intact. Soup fans have no need to fear – we are the same, gritty street poets we’ve always been. We owe that to our fans, and our fans have every right to demand only our best. It reminds me of the other day – I was sitting at my computer sipping some coffee, when all of a sudden my coffee mug spontaneously shattered, spilling coffee all over my mouse pad. I quickly got a paper towel to try to clean the mouse pad, but as soon as I started cleaning it, the ink smeared and portions of the melted pad attached to my hand, leaving me with some nasty burns. I was exasperated, and I thought to myself “why doesn’t anyone put out quality products anymore?”. Thank goodness for the online Soup store – I was able to get myself a new coffee mug AND a mousepad in no time, and I can happily report that after 3 days, my official Beat Soup coffee mug is still (mostly) intact, my Beat Soup mousepad has NOT fused itself to any part of my body, and I am now free to write some more edgy ska-verse for our fans (by the way – a special shout out to our newest ‘fan’, Carnivore Frozen Vegetables – I should have that jingle ready anyday now!). So rest easy, Soup Nation – Beat Soup is here to stay!
