Beat
Soup has been compared to Bim Skala Bim, Madness, Elvis Costello and
The Specials. Their original music is inspired by British Invasion
Pop, 2Tone Ska, and bands like Talking Heads and even The B52s! The
8–piece dance band features the classic sax-trombone-trumpet horn
section on Caribbean and Rock Beats. They have been together since the
early 1990's and are currently recording their 3rd CD.
Music
Danceable upbeat horn driven Ska,
Pop, Calypso, Rocksteady, and Reggae originals and covers.
The
Tide is High...
Having played the Boston club scene in various undifferentiated Pop
bands; Dan, Tom and Ted asked themselves "What do we really enjoy
about playing music?" and agreed that a packed dance floor was
the difference between a fun gig and a blah one. So in 1992 we took
our common interests in British Invasion Pop and 2Tone Ska and set
out to form an original Dance band. Ted suggested adding a horn
section, then a novelty in the Boston club scene but a dramatic
addition to the music and live show.
With Johnny keeping the beat, and Robin, Karl and Dino on horns, Beat
Soup recorded our second album 'Miriam your Toast is Burning' in
2001. Great reviews, radio airplay and popular interest brought
many great shows all over New England and beyond.
With
Mike on keyboards and Lynne as booking agent joining the family,
things
have never been better. We're playing bigger and better clubs,
expanding our musical style, and pumping out the fun
and compelling beats that Beat Soup has become known for.
